Upcoming Events at The Grief Centre

After the one we love has gone.  Holding on or letting go?"

Andrew Thompson, a teaching fellow, social worker, and therapist, is the presenter for this workshop.  Andrew will offer a discussion about the influential voices over the last 100 years and what they have told us about grief.  It will provide an opportunity for you to explore your own thinking and ideas about grief, and the dilemma of holding on and letting go.  The workshop will be particularly suitable for those whose work brings them in touch with people experiencing grief and loss, yet have had little opportunity for any training in this area--or feel in need of a refresher.

Thursday 22 March 2012, 2-4 pm, at The Grief Centre, 92 Hinemoa St, Birkenhead.

Cost:  $20.00.  Registration is essential.  Please phone 09 4181457, or email office@griefcentre.org.nz with your contact details.  Click here for more details.

Kids Do Grieve

Lorna Wood, a child and adolescent psychotherapist, will be presenting this workshop for The Grief Centre.  Lorna will present a clinical case study which will give participants the opportunity to explore the concepts required for children to gain an understanding about death and dying.  The different developmental needs specific to the age of a child who may be grieving will also be discussed.  This workshop will be particularly suitable for those whose work brings them in touch with children experiencing grief and loss, and/or their parents and carers.

Thursday 3 May, 2012 from 2-4pm at The Grief Centre, 92 Hinemoa St, Birkenhead.

Cost:  $20.  Registration is essential. Please phone 09 4181457, or email office@griefcentre.org.nz with your contact details.  Click here for more information.

Managing Grief at Holiday Times

In 2012, we will again be presenting this popular seminar at two venues for the public.

Tuesday November 13, 7-9 pm at The Grief Centre, 92 Hinemoa St, Birkenhead

Tuesday November 20, 7-9 pm at Morrison's Funeral Home, 220 Universal Drive, Henderson.

For bereaved people, Christmas, holidays, and anniversaries can be a painful time and often approached with dread.  They may be times of intense loneliness, sadness, and overwhelming emptiness.  This seminar will give you the opportunity to meet and talk with others who may be experiencing similar feelings, as well as gaining some more practical suggestions on ways to get through this difficult time.  We hope this seminar will be useful for those who have experienced a loss, as well as those in the community who may work or support people affected by grief and loss.

The workshop will be facilitated by Carol Blair, Manager of The Grief Centre and social worker by profession.  The workshop will finish with time for a cup of tea and the chance to talk with others. Cost: A gold coin donation would be appreciated.

Registration essential. Please phone 09 4181457 or email office@griefcentre.org.nz
